Scotland is one to watch in 2025, and this year marks the 75th anniversary of The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo, with the theme being “The Heroes Who Made Us,” running nearly the whole month of August from the 1-23.
“We’re celebrating the 75-year history of the global cultural phenomenon that is the Tattoo and all the talented and dedicated heroes who have made the Show what it is over the decades,” said Alan Lane, the Creative Director of The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo, in a recent press release.
“And we’re also honouring the heroes who stitch together our communities into a nation with their efforts, their volunteering, the example they inspire with the way they lead their lives. The unsung local heroes who help others, lead community groups and give of their time for the benefit of others.”
What is: The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo
If right now you’re wondering, “Why would people celebrate the anniversary of getting a military tattoo” … let me explain:
This is a massive evening showcase with a fireworks send-off on the parade grounds of Edinburgh Castle. It started just post-WWII as part of The Edinburgh International Festival of Music and Drama. The original, much smaller performance was called “Something About a Solider” and it was so popular that it was scheduled again, and again.
Travel Tip: If you’re considering going on your own, buy your tickets in advance. But, if you’re planning to travel to Scotland with us in August, we can arrange the tickets for you.
As for what’s in store, more from Alan Lane:
“Respecting everything that has come before, and celebrating that past whilst making a new, contemporary iteration of this classic show has been our driving focus over the last few months. I really can’t wait for the audience to see what we have in store for them.”
– Lane
