14 Henrietta Street captures over 300 years of family and city life within the walls of one address. Visitor are brought on truly moving journey from the houses’ grand Georgian beginnings to the tenement dwellings of its later years. Originally built in the 1720s for wealthy Dublin families, by 1911 over 850 people lived on the street, over 100 of those in 14 Henrietta Street. At the heart of the experience is the spirit of the house, which comes alive through the stories and personal objects from the former residents and from the insights shared by passionate local guides into the everyday realities of the Dubliners who lived here. This experience aligns with SDG 11: Sustainable Cities & Communities. 14 Henrietta St underwent a conservation plan to rescue, stabilise and conserve the house, preserving it for generations to come. The project employed expert crafts people in the areas of specialist stone repairs, wrought iron repairs, wallpaper conservation and reproduction as well as specialist decorative plasterwork and repairs to 20th century tiled fireplaces. Choose this MAKE TRAVEL MATTER® Experience and you’ll help make a positive impact on the local community and support the UN’s sustainable development goals.
