As you approach Clonalis House, pass through a set of magnificent gates along an avenue which meanders through pasture and woodland. Overlooking a parkland of oak and copper beech trees, nestled in a crescent of cypress and redwood trees stands a grand Victorian residence regarded by many as one of Ireland's most important historic houses. The O'Conor family are direct descendants of the last High Kings of Ireland, and is now home to the 27th generation. This 700-acre estate has a rich history. It's been home to Kings of Ireland and Connacht for over 1,000 years. Now you will find an elegant house with a large collection of family portraits, telling a unique and interesting story and a library lined with ancient tombs some dating as far back as the 16th century.
